Olivier Messiaen
Olivier Messiaen (December 10, 1908 – April 27, 1992) was a French composer, organist, and ornithologist. Messiaen's music is rhythmically complex (he was interested in rhythms from ancient Greece and from Hindu sources), and is harmonically and melodically based on modes of limited transposition, which were Messiaen's own innovation. Many of his compositions depict what he termed "the marvellous aspects of the faith", drawing on his unshakeable Roman Catholicism.

calibration II
i dont know how i got to this point, but i was just lost in the meaning of music and trying to find a way to express something and then i created this in complete disregard for "musicality". i wrote a score for two pianos that i transferred to midi using a glockenspiel-type sound. that is then drenched in a shower of noise overlayed with an improvisatory percussive performance of hitting a tuning fork against my bedroom table.more

This is track 8 from the soundtrack I composed for the film called Birdtown. It features some exquisite violin playing by Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Violinist Andrea Keeble. Messiaen is an influence on my composition specifically his Modes of Limited Transposition and use of the upper partials to create a feeling of flight or spirit. Definitely what I was aiming for with the string arrangements. The soundtrack is mostly string percussion, found sound, some ocilator manipulation and a tiny bit of brass. I'd love to know what people think. more
